Open Coil / Bonnell Springs
A well made unit will have about 300 or so interlacing springs in a Kingsize. The manufacturing process allows manufacturers to have more or less springs than this by expanding or reducing the spacing in between the springs. They are measured by gauge – the thickness of the spring – with the lower the number = the thicker the wire used.
