This is an excellent and much needed resource. I was recently in the market for a new mattress and trawled the net for bargains and to get some idea what was out there. I soon found that it was next to impossible to get hard information on mattresses from manufacturers websites so that I could make an informed decision. It seemed that most retailers and the manufacturers themselves were deliberately trying to pull the wool over our eyes and were very wary of telling us anything concrete about what went into their products. I couldn’t even tell which mattresses were pocket sprung and which open sprung most of the time due to all the confusing jargon. I was going round and round in circles and getting nowhere fast. I was starting to despair until I found your website. I immediately realised that I had finally found some solid info on mattresses and spent the whole evening reading through every article on your interesting site and at the end of it I had the information I needed to make a reasoned decision about what type of mattress to buy. Unfortunately I live north of Edinburgh so it was not feasible for me to make a purchase from yourselves due to the transport costs, but I felt that I had to add my own feedback and say that I have already been singing your praises to all my friends. Bought a super king Origins 2000 zip and link bed. Apparently, I kick during the night thus waking my partner. The pocket sprung zip and link mattresses have solved that problem; effectively it’s 2 single beds that can be joined together. The guys recommendations were spot on and the bed is very comfortable and supportive. Delivery was also prompt (to Edinburgh), no problems and great guys to deal with.

Customer comes first really comes across in his genuine attitude unlike so many high street furniture stores with their fake smiles and if take too long and dont buy something quickly under their pressure they cant be bothered with you.

Breath of fresh air! It was a relief to find your site and your service was amazing. These guys came from North west to the South West through all the snow just before xmas to deliver my zip and link superking. I rang on the morning they were meant to be coming to say they wouldn’t get to my house as it was a country lane and my builders (who are local!) didn’t make it. Their reply – well, we’ll park and carry it to you!!! In the end they didn’t need to as they managed (just) to get here.
As for the mattress – DELIGHTED!! We bought a fancy antique french bed and were worried about mattress fitting. They were so helpful and all was fine. Their wonderful mattress and certainly improved matters in our house!!!
After much searching on the internet, we very fortunately stumbled upon Factory Beds! Just looking at the way the Origins Pocket 2000 was described we had to have the King bed & Mattress. A week later we took delivery – we were not dissapointed, quite the contrary….it was much more than what we thought it would be in terms of comfort etc and the whole process was dealt with extreme efficiency.

I ordered The Origins Latex Pocket 1500 online on 15th Dec and we slept on it Thursday 16th Dec. We were fortunate that it was in stock and John and Ryan could fit us into their delivery schedule. Still, they are in Manchester, we are in SE London and the weather forecast for the night was awful. The boys installed the new mattress, helped me bend the old battered mattress in 2 wrapped it and helped me stuff it into my car for my disposal.
So service exceptional and far beyond expectation, truly a personal service, 10/10.
The mattress was exactly as described on this superbly genuine web site and Bridget and I look forward to many continued nights of comfortable sleep undisturbed by the movements of the other.
I value genuine and informed service, a decent price (cost plus profit) and a quality product. All of this was delivered by John and Ryan.
As for recommendation, absolutely, try the rest then buy from the best… John and Ryan.
John and Ryan proved once again that their customer service is really to get it there no matter what, as they battled a traffic jam on the M25 and snow and ice to get our mattress to us 10 minutes before our Christmas party!
Their advice was excellent when they recommended the Origins Pocket 2000 as a great replacement for our 15 year old Hypnos mattress. We were unsure about replacing such a great mattress with one that was sight unseen and only going on John’s excellent website and the information and advice he gave us.
However, our worries were groundless. It’s really comfortable, firm but with such a soft padding that you sink right in and we slept really well, really quickly.

We purchased an Origins Pocket 2000 and arranged delivery for a specific date. As we are outside John’s delivery area a special delivery had been arranged. Unfortunately the delivery company failed to deliver on the specified date which really messed things up. At this point John’s customer service excellence kicked in. We were kept in the loop at all times and when the mattress finally arrived, we were compensated for the inconvenience. We are very happy with the mattress and would highly recommend this company. The information on John’s website is very informative – not merely salesman speak, so we could make an informed decision.

Naivley I thought buying a mattress would be a relatively easy thing to do, but after going through the rigmarole of visiting high st. bed retailers and getting inadequate and totally conflicting information with regard to whether we should buy this spring or that spring, latex or foam or memory foam or spring and latex and memory foam. Should we have pillow matttresses a one sided mattress or a two sided mattress a quilted or non quilted mattress, should we pay 200 or 2000 pounds etc.etc. I had the good fortune to find John’s webbsite rang him and at last got some straight forward common sense answers to my questions.
John advised us and we purchased the Origins 1500 Ziplink mattress. It does everthing the man said and we are very satisfied. (it’s so comfortable we can’t get up in the mornings).
The quality is good the service is good and the price is good. I would not hesitate to recomend this company it is straight forward and honest. Don’t hesitate use them.

I ordered 3 mattresses from John recently and was really impressed with the advice over the phone and just as impressed with the product when they arrived. I ordered 2 double sleepwave mattresses and 1 superking Origins 2000 mattress. And after looking around for what seemed like forever on other sites, getting confused by all the mattresses out there, I can guarantee I would have ended up paying double if I’d gone elsewhere. I only gave John a weeks notice that I needed them but he managed to get them all delivered on the exact day I needed them. Well I’ve waited 6 weeks to give this review of the Sequence Support 2000. Why? Well what is the point of writing a quick review after a couple of nights’ sleep in an unfamiliar bed. Let’s face it, if you get rid of your old mattress and replace it, then you are not going to feel as if you are in a familiar place for a while.
We thought quite long and hard before choosing the Sequence Support. I looked around and researched both on this site and others for a mattress that suited our needs and pockets. Before committing ourselves we emailed John to ask for his advice and opinion, neither I nor my wife are the lightest of builds and we didn’t want something we’d sink in to nor lie on top of like it were a piece of plywood.
So six weeks in and the mattress no longer has that ‘new’ smell, I am used to the new height from the floor and I can now get into bed without thinking about the newness and novelty of having a new mattress. I get a decent night’s sleep and don’t have any aches and pains in the morning – well none that can be attributed to the mattress anyway.
To dwell on the differences between the old and the new mattresses would be pointless. The old one was 16 years old and, frankly, knackered so any new mattress would be an improvement. However what an improvement! My wife and I feel well supported and comfortable without being subjected to a hard bed. The only “negatives” are that the mattress is about 3 inches thicker than the old one so when we sit on the bed our feet don’t touch the floor, and the fitted sheets are a struggle to pull over the lower corners. A small price to pay and we needed some new bedding anyway.
A couple of weeks after we got the new mattress I spent 3 nights in London staying in a hotel from a national chain (no names, but their advertising features a rather roguish teddy bear in a dressing gown). Their mattress felt awful, it sagged, no support, I could feel (and hear) the springs. This in a room that was charged at not far short of £100 a night! Believe me I have never felt so pleased to be back in my own bed when I got home.
One final thing, John himself. You couldn’t hope to meet a nicer bloke. Courteous and attentive, willing to give good advice. He got the mattress in the house and up the stairs like he’d been doing it all his life (he probably has I suppose, well all his adult life). He knows his stuff does John, and he also looks after his customers.
Do I like the Sequence Support? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes, it is a very good mattress at an exceptional price, but talk to John first if you’re not sure if it is right for you – he knows what works for different people. Would I buy from John again? Most definitely, but hopefully not for a few years yet.
Recently purchased an Origins SKS 2000 zip and link bed. We have now had it for over 3 weeks and are highly delighted with the comfort compared to our previous mattress a Tempur memory foam. We had spent many hours in various high street stores listening to sales pitches for beds costing hundreds and even thousands of pounds. Zip and links seem particularly difficult to find in the high street but are ideal if there is a significant weight difference between couples. John’s website is very informative and I found out everything I needed to know. The video clip is very interesting! John’s customer service is excellent and he delivered up to Cumbria on a Saturday at no extra charge. He installed the bed and took away all the packing too. We also paid on delivery. We would highly recommend Factory Beds Direct.

I came across the site and was impressed not only by the prices but also by the detailed help given, largely absent on other similar websites. With the information thus gained I chose an Origins 1500 pocket latex mattress. I was impressed by the communication which followed – something one might hope for but often doesn’t get when making internet purchases. Emailed confirmation and receipt immediately after purchase , a friendly phone call to arrange delivery, a phone call on the day to confirm delivery time and a seamless delivery. The mattress was as described and is extremely comfortable, so all the on site information and the superb customer service has led to a very happy customer!
I came across this site a few months ago when googling whether a ‘no turn’ mattress was a good thing in mattress terms. I then spent the next half an hour digesting all there is to know about mattresses (particularly liked the video of the two mattresses being cut open!) which gave me the confidence to pick a mattress from the internet, rather than going instore to buy one. I was oohming and aahing between two models so emailed John and he recommended the Sleepwave Pocket 1000 based on my description of what I was after.
As I’d had no dealings with Factory Beds Direct (or Mobile Mattress Man) before, and indeed had never heard of the company, I decided to pay with a credit card in case things went wrong but I needn’t have worried. There was a slight hiccup with delivery date but John kept me informed every step of the way and quickly arranged a new delivery. I actually felt quite guilty that he drove all the way from ‘up north’ to the furthest delivery point south on his delivery area as when I asked him where he was off to next he said he had no other southerly deliveries that day so was heading back to where he came from!
I was so pleased with the service John provided I wanted to write a review of the service side of things straight away but thought it would be better to see how the mattress fared first of all before I passed comment as great service is all good and well but my main aim was a comfy mattress at a good price. Anyway, I’ve had the Sleepwave Pocket 1000 for over two months now, I can’t believe the difference in comfort between this unbranded pocket sprung mattress and what I thought was a ‘quality’ top brand miracoil mattress. It’s so comfortable, a little on the firm side but now I’ve got used to it’s as near perfect comfort-wise as you could get.
So, in summary, I would highly recommend Factory Beds Direct – John is a really helpful, decent guy who obviously loves mattresses! 10/10 for service, 10/10 for quality and 10/10 for price.
You need a new mattress what do you do? Go down the nearest bed emporium and bounce on a few beds and listen to some BS from the salesman there, they know everything you try will be 300% better than the chicken wire and straw job you have at home and you will buy anything, I fell for once never again.
Firstly read all the advice from John on this site, it is a virtual guarantee you will want a pocket sprung mattress, but never fear these are not as expensive as you have been lead to believe. These are available from under 200 of your earth pounds this really is good value and John has done all the hard work for you sorting though the dross online just giving you a few of the best available at every price point.
I personally settled for the Sequence Support Double and I could not be happier, personally would describe this mattress as firm and not medium-firm, but this is good as I was worried it maybe to soft if anything before I ordered. However firmness is all a matter of opinion as there is not national firm scale, in any case John would change it for you anyway if you were not happy. I think he can give this promise as he likes to speak to everybody before they order so he can be sure that they are buying the right mattress for their needs.
This is what the internet is for, so with a little work you can track down the smaller independent business who know their stuff and treat customers right. I think everybody I know will be buying a mattress from John, just to stop me going on about it all the time!!!!

Hmmm just re-read my post above and thought i’d just clarify, John had advised us the matress was firm when i was ordering and not when i rang to return. “There was nothing else wrong with the mattress” is also something i’m saying rather than anything John said.
I agree with all the good comments, it’s such a different experience to the usual shopping and delivery mayhems. John estimated the time and then phoned as promised when he was on his way. I can also vouch for Johns returns policy. We originally ordered the Sequence Support but found it a bit firm so asked if we could swap for the Origins 2000 which has been great. John advised the Sequence was the firmer of the two and there was nothing else wrong with the mattress so felt a bit guilty for the return but John was 100% behind us and advised that we’d have the mattress for a long time and it should be right. We had the new one within a few days and John even delivered at an inconvenient delivery time to fit around our existing plans (and add to my guilt), sorry John and thanks for all your help.

Review of the Kingsize Origins Pocket 2000 Mattress.
Firstly, the service from John is excellent, – if you decide to buy a bed you’ll probably meet in person, in fact, as he delivers the mattress straight to your bedroom! After having looked at the internet in general at a number of mattresses what impressed me most was the honesty of John’s approach. There really are those special offers of was £1300, now £500 (and I saw it on some of the mattresses John sells, and he sells it cheaper!). But with this company, you get a good overview of how mattresses are made, what to expect and what you are actually paying for. I’m confident to say that you get a quality mattress at an excellent price, in fact the cheapest price I could find.
So, the mattress itself. We ordered a Kingsize Pocket 2000 with an additional Reflex layer to give it extra substance and to provide a durable bridge between the spring unit and the top layers. The first thing you notice is the quality and weight of the mattress – this isn’t going to bend around doors (so do make sure there’s a clear, straight run to the room you will be using it in). The fabric is excellent and there are the nice touches of hand tufted woolen felts. (It’s scary to say but I now know what they are.) You feel like you have a bargain, even before you’ve laid down on the thing. The mattress, itself, is medium to firm, and we have been using it for a couple of months now. We’ve found it to be very comfortable, and believe that we have a mattress that will last.
My wife and I did look at a number of mattresses, including some of the high-end Vi-Sprung mattress, which retail in the £1000s. There is a difference, perhaps not that great, actually, but as John states, he’s not competing in that market. The bottom line, in my opinion is this: if you want an excellent mattress at an excellent price, to include great service (I mean if you don’t like it you can return within 14 days, and you don’t have to worry about collection!) I would wholeheartedly recommend John and Factory Beds Direct.

After my guests left 15.7.10 I slept in one of the beds and it felt luxurious and very comfy. It also looks like an expensive bed. Even the matress buttons looked handmade – but can’t be in this day and age. JB

I was very pleased with the attention I received the beds arrived double bagged which was highly sensible and necessary and I would not have thought of it myself. They arrived on time I personally thought they looked great. Here follows the comments from my 2 guests who have slept on them.
Ruth – We have spent the last 3 nights on the beds and they are very comfortable , with a slight hammock/water bed feeling that lets you sink into the mattress and is very conducive to a good nights rest. They are a little high which needs to be remembered if you’re not used to it!
Margaret – I SLEPT VERY WELL. THE BED WAS VERY COSY AND COMFORTABLE. SITTING ON THE SIDE TO GET IN AND OUT WAS A BIT LIKE SITTING ON A WATER BED.

I was prepared to really splash out on a new bed as I sleep really poorly, but after testing numerous mattresses in many shops and being given lots of contradictory advice, I felt more confused than ever. In the end I simply told John what my priorities and budget were he and he sorted out the rest. He was the only person I really trusted- enough to even buy over the internet. Gosh, how lucky I was finding your website! With your advice I ordered a 6ft zip and link Origins Comfort 1000 for my elderley mother and girlfriend to sleep on (separately!) both have hip problems and needed something fairly soft and forgiving and these mattresses are perfect.

Although we ordered (without advice from you) a 2000 mattress which suited me perfectly, but which Debbie found to be too hard. You returned and discussed our differences of opinion and subsequently recommended a ZIp and Link option with differing mattress combinations.

Hi John – it’s taken me a while to do this as I only moved in the house last weekend.
When I was looking for the right mattress, I did a great deal of research on the internet, I found a couple of mattresses on Factory Beds Direct that I liked. I phoned John and he advised and solved any doubts I may have had about my choices. From the day I decided to order from him, he was only a phonecall away and I felt confident that I had chosen the right matress and supplier. We arranged a suitable delivery time and he phoned me to say he was on his way, he also took the matress upstairs to where it would be.
The matress is suberb, just perfect, firm but with a layer of yeilding latex to support my joints in the right places. Thanks John I wish you every success in the future.
